OUR HISTORY

IQbusiness, previously The IQ Business Group, was founded in South Africa in 1998, by a group of individuals from the world’s top consulting firms. They believed that there was a better, faster and more cost effective way to deliver service excellence and accelerated results. Today, IQbusiness is the largest South African management and technology consulting firm, attracting top talent and ambitious clients, both locally and globally.

Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP)

IQbusiness is a sustainable procurement ambassador of the Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP). The SPP is a voluntary initiative, with members pledging support and commitment to achieving more sustainable sourcing and buying practices; and to considering the impact organisational decisions have on employees, customers, suppliers, the community and the environment.

Adam Craker

Adam is the CEO at IQbusiness, the largest independent management consulting firm in South Africa. He is an ardent lobbyist for government and business collaboration. Most recently, both the COBRA Consortium and the COBRA (Covid Business Rescue Assistance) Initiative, were conceptualised and initiated by IQbusiness, Schindlers Attorneys and Engaged Business Turnaround on 19 March 2020. COBRA was established as a social enterprise (NPO) offering pro bono services to South African businesses in distress. Through a structured business rescue process, COBRA co-ordinates bank, government and stakeholder support. Adam has forged strong partnerships between IQbusiness and various NGOs and social enterprises such as: SmartStart, Tomorrow Trust, Harambee and Partners for Possibility. Some other milestones encouraging shared prosperity for all include the creation of the GROWTH.co.za forum and accompanying annual research report that identifies 5 key pillars for growth. Under Adam’s leadership, IQbusiness has won the coveted 2018 Conscious Companies Award. IQbusiness is making a positive impact in ESD and other areas with Adam’s “End the #NationalShutUp” campaign, his work with the Presidential CEO Initiative and the establishment of the National Mentorship Movement. Recognition of IQbusiness as a Certified B Corporation positions Adam and his team as leaders in a new social narrative. Previous companies and positions: Super Group (COO), Dimension Data (Group Executive), Merchants (Pty) Ltd (MD), Accenture (Associate Partner), British Gas (Market Analyst). Adam is a member of the Young President’s Organisation, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and the President of the IMD Alumni Club of South Africa.

Cheryl Carolus

Cheryl is the Non-Executive Chairperson of IQbusiness, and a Director on a number of listed and unlisted companies, including De Beers and Investec. She is also the Executive Chairperson of Peotona Group Holdings, a women owned and managed company that gives back two thirds profit to the communities where it operates and draws its workforce from. Prior to her current roles, Cheryl held senior leadership positions in the liberation movement in South Africa, working closely with Nelson Mandela and helping negotiate the new South African Constitution. Cheryl also served as South Africa’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, from 1998 to 2001, and was the CEO of SA Tourism from 2001 to 2004. Finally, she was Chairperson of the South African National Parks Board for six years. Cheryl has a BA Law Degree, Bachelor of Education, and Honorary Doctorate in Law (in recognition of her achievements in the field of Human Rights). She was appointed as a trustee of the British Museum by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and in 2014, she was awarded the French National Order of Merit by the Government of France. She works with NGOs focused on young people at risk, conflict prevention, conservation and biodiversity, including Soul City, WWF and International Crisis Group.

Dirk Ackerman

Dirk is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness, and a member of the Remuneration Committee. Since retiring from executive corporate responsibilities, he now concentrates on his private equity activities as Chairman of IQ Capital, and serves on several boards in the NGO and commercial arenas. A seasoned business leader, Dirk has a successful track record across several industries. Since the beginning of his career, he’s been at the forefront of business empowerment initiatives, and has had the privilege of pioneering major empowerment initiatives in the banking, construction, ICT, state asset management, and public utility management fields. He has played an influential role in the early establishment of transformational practices and standards in numerous businesses and government departments. Dirk has a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and Law from the University of the Witwatersrand. He has also achieved numerous Management qualifications, and attended several Executive Development Programmes. Dirk is also a member of the Institute of Directors, a trustee and Chairman of the Endangered Wildlife Trust, and a founder member of the SA Tourism Business Council.

Darshan Daya

Darshan is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness. He is also a Co-Founder and Partner of Capitalworks Investment Partners, and serves on the boards of companies relating to the group’s investments in a diverse range of industries including: financial services, recycling, boat manufacturing, food production, and mining. Prior to Capitalworks, Darshan served as a Director of Brait Private Equity, with executive responsibility for fund investments in various sectors, including payment services, environmental services and recruitment. He has 18 years of private equity and investment banking experience. Darshan is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, where he completed an Honours Degree in Business Science.

Pieter van Tonder

Pieter is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness, and Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee. Until December 2016, he fulfilled the role of IQ Group’s Chief Financial Officer. Peter is also a Director of IQ Business Group Australia, and until recently, served on the board of IQ Business Group USA for 17 years. Pieter also serves on the boards of various other private companies, including IQ Capital and PLP Group. He is currently acting as Chief Executive Officer of Eriger. His previous roles include Financial Director, Regional Managing Director and Divisional Director of a services business in Super Group, and Senior International Manager at one of the top international professional services organisations. Pieter holds a BCom (Accounting) Honours qualification, from the University of Johannesburg. He also has a CA (SA) qualification, and is a member of SAICA (the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) and IOD (Institute of Directors).

Nkululeko Sowazi

Nkululeko is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness. He is also the Chairman of Kagiso Tiso Holdings (KTH), a leading South African investment holding company with significant interests in the media, financial services, and industrial sectors. He is also a Chairman of Synchem Group Ltd, a chemical holdings company and the Executive Chairman and co-founder of Tiso Investment Holdings, a diversified Pan-African investment holding company with business interests in South Africa and Ghana. Nkululeko is currently a director of JSE-listed companies Grindrod Ltd and MTN Group Ltd. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Vanguard Group Limited (Ghana), Tiso Blackstar Group SE (United Kingdom), and IQ Business Holdings. Nkululeko holds a Master’s Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He serves on the board of a number of not-for-profit organisations, is a co-founder trustee of the Tiso Foundation, and Chairman of the Housing for HIV Foundation based in Washington D.C.

Shaun Frankish

Shaun is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness. He is a Principal in Private Equity business for Capitalworks, which he joined in 2007. Shaun started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he completed his articles, and later worked in the transaction services team. He has 12 years of private equity and corporate finance experience, and currently serves on the boards of Obsidian Health, Infrastructure Specialist Group, Robertson and Caine, IQbusiness, and Gallus Holdings, the holding company of Sovereign Foods. Shaun has an Honours Degree in Business Science from the University of Cape Town. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA), and a CFA charter holder.

Louis Geeringh

Louis is a Non-Executive Director of IQbusiness, and the group CEO of Capitalworks. Prior to this, Louis worked for Deloitte for 24 years in a number of roles, including CEO of Deloitte Consulting in Southern Africa, and Global Executive Director for Service Innovation. Louis is a Chartered Accountant and has a Master’s Degree in Management Accounting. He has been part of the international business and technology think-tank, FutureWorld since inception, and works to better understand the causal links between corporate innovation and sustainable growth.

Annalize Buck

Annalize Buck is the newly appointed Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director to the Board of IQbusiness. Annalize has extensive knowledge in planning, forecasting, reporting and budgeting. She has shared services experience in AR, AP, asset management, intercompany, forex, payroll, and financial close. Previously, she was the Financial Controller at Cummins, the Fortune 500 corporation in engine and power generation products. In her 10-year tenure at Cummins, Annalize worked across multiple business units in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Annalize will focus on supporting the Finance team and formalizing and consolidating strategies on finance related projects. Furthermore, Annalize will be responsible for creating a strong business partnership between finance and the rest of the business, to ensure process alignment and to strengthen our Financial reporting results. Annalize obtained her ACCA (CA) qualification from Oxford Brookes in the UK in 2006. She has also completed a PMD with GIBS in 2012. She has completed Six Sigma trainings and is a qualified Green Belt.

Michelle Kimmie

Michelle is the General Manager of Investments for the Tiso Foundation Charitable Trust and is responsible for managing the Foundation’s investment portfolio and assets. Michelle is also responsible for ensuring that all legal, statutory, and regulatory compliance requirements are met for both the Foundation, and its subsidiary company, the Tiso Skills Fund. Michelle has been in her current role for almost 11 years, having previously worked for the Tiso Group as Head of Transaction Management (now delisted) for eight years before. She has experience in managing and administering transactions, financial management and budget preparation for presentation to the Board of Trustees. Prior to 2002 she was employed by the Standard Bank of South Africa Limited in their Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank division, holding various positions over 15 years. Michelle has a Higher Diploma in Tax from RAU in April 2004, and a BCom Degree from Unisa in May 2000. She was appointed as a Commissioner of Oaths for the Foundation and is currently the Chairperson of the Tiso AEL Development Trust and the AECI Community Education and Development Trust. She is a registered member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa. She is also a Director of EWF Partners Pty Ltd, Fund Manager and the Tiso Skills Fund Pty Ltd.

 

David Nel

David is the Chief Commercial Officer for IQbusiness, and has over 25 years of experience in business consulting. David is responsible for the Go-to-Market portfolio, which includes client relationships and development, marketing, research and thought leadership. David is actively involved with our clients, ensuring that the best commercial construct is delivered across our client base, building business capability and creating solutions that help our clients grow and achieve targeted returns. At IQbusiness, David has worked across various business groups, leading both the Human Performance and Process Innovation Practices prior to his current role as CCO. David joined the organisation in 2014, having spent eight years with a large multinational consulting firm where he consulted on large-scale ERP and business performance improvement projects. In addition, David has also worked in the Mining industry for over 14 years, where he was specifically involved in the development and public listing of greenfield mining and logistical ventures, which he ran locally and abroad, serving as COO and CEO. David holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce from UNISA and the University of Johannesburg.

Asha Mungaldave

Asha brings 20 years of experience in the Human Capital function. She’s worked across the full spectrum of disciplines, including learning and development, organisation development, diversity and inclusion, workforce planning and employee relations. Prior to joining IQbusiness, Asha spent 15 years in various Human Capital and Learning Lead roles at Barloworld Equipment, this included leading their Human Capital team (Africa division) and crafting and operationalising their Leadership Development strategy and framework. Asha holds a MPhil Management Coaching from the University of Stellenbosch Business School and an Honours Degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of Natal.

Jakobus Wilken

Jakobus is a Partner at IQbusiness and the Regional Executive for the IQbusiness Cape Town office. He started his career at what is now Business Connexion, and spent 9 years facilitating various local and regional government projects in a number of capacities. Jakobus then worked as the MD of 3fifteen, a software development company, and set up a completely new branch in Cape Town. With an excellent track record of successful business development, Jakobus was the perfect candidate to manage the growth of IQbusiness’ Cape Town operations. His “finger on the pulse” approach, strong leadership and unique skill set has enabled him to put together a powerful team in the region, and through great collaboration with the organisation’s head office, he has managed to effectively extend the IQbusiness culture, and level of product and client service delivery, from Johannesburg, to the Mother City. His areas of expertise include business development, solutions delivery, project management, business analysis, congruency and collaboration, and building successful relationships. Jakobus holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), from the University of Stellenbosch.

Karl-Heinz Wessinger

Karl leads the Technology Enablement practice within IQbusiness, and is responsible for the successful implementation of custom software solutions and packages, while also providing consulting services in enterprise and solutions architecture, governance and strategy. Karl is a knowledgeable management consultant, with years of experience in software development. His strength lies in being able to bring together and align the priorities of business leaders and the IT departments that serve them. Karl specialises in IT management consulting, corporate strategy, enterprise architecture, solutions architecture and software development. Karl has worked abroad in the UK, Australia, India and Germany, assisting organisations of all sizes, and across sectors, to realise their IT ambitions. Karl holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategy and Operations from the University of Pretoria. He has a National Diploma in Information Technology from the University of Johannesburg, too.

Tim Matthis

Tim leads the Solutions Consulting business group at IQbusiness. This includes our research businesses (Genex Insights and nudge), solutions consulting teams and data platform, analytics and finance advisory. Tim joined In 2019, when Genex Insights was fully acquired by IQbusiness. Tim’s areas of interest and focus include leadership development and the productisation of best-of-breed solutions to complex but common business problems, applying a customer-centric lens throughout.
