We are seeking a seasoned Programme Manager to lead a strategic Data Governance initiative within the Banking sector.
This role will be pivotal in interpreting audit outcomes, shaping governance frameworks, and driving alignment with regulatory standards. While it will draw on insights from existing data practices and assessments, the primary focus is on establishing clear structures, roles, and processes that promote data integrity, accountability, and strategic enablement.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data governance, risk, and compliance, and will be capable of translating complex audit insights into actionable strategies.
Key Responsibilities and Output Areas Included:
Programme Definition & Mobilisation
- Lead the strategic framing of the Data Governance programme, ensuring alignment with audit findings, regulatory expectations, and enterprise data strategy.
- Engage senior stakeholders across compliance, risk, IT, and business units to define programme vision, outcomes, and governance structures.
- Develop a multi-stream programme roadmap that integrates policy, process, technology, and people dimensions of data governance.
- Establish programme controls, reporting mechanisms, and resource plans to support effective mobilisation.
Programme Delivery & Oversight
- Oversee the execution of interrelated projects and workstreams under the Data Governance programme umbrella.
- Ensure delivery of key components such as data quality frameworks, metadata standards, ownership models, and stewardship protocols.
- Monitor programme performance, manage risks and interdependencies, and adapt delivery plans in response to audit feedback or regulatory changes.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and drive stakeholder engagement to embed governance practices across the organisation.
- Provide executive-level reporting and strategic guidance to ensure programme alignment with business and compliance objectives.
Programme Closure & Transition
- Evaluate programme outcomes against strategic objectives, regulatory benchmarks, and audit recommendations.
- Lead the transition of governance capabilities into business-as-usual operations, ensuring sustainability and continuous improvement.
- Document lessons learned, success stories, and improvement opportunities to inform future governance initiatives.
- Deliver final programme reporting and assurance artefacts to executive sponsors and regulatory bodies as required.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Data, Risk or related field
- Formal qualification or certification in Programme or Project Management and related Data fields
- Minimum of 8 years’ Programme Management experience, including:
- 4+ years in data and data governance programmes within banking.
- Proven track record of leading multi-stream programmes that align with audit findings and regulatory frameworks (e.g., POPIA, GDPR, BCBS 239).
- Strong stakeholder engagement and strategic planning capabilities.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, risk management, and regulatory environments
- Exposure to Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies
- Familiarity with business and process analysis in financial contexts
