Concept Discovery Sprint

Project Overview

We were called in to facilitate a 5-day concept discovery workshop with a large African retail bank’s BS&R Team.

 

The Challenge

100% of the team’s tasks consisted of manual, time-consuming, administrative work. We needed to find a way to automate their processes to free up capacity for them to work on other projects. We began the sprint by determining the business context and defining the project’s vision statement. Once this was agreed upon, we conducted user interviews in order to understand the user’s needs and core pain points. The insights gained from these interviews were used to map out the user journey with particular emphasis on the Moments of Truth. The team separated and individually came up with solutions, which were presented to the group for silent voting.

Website Evaluation & Competitor Analysis

Project Overview

Our team was tasked with evaluating an African telecommunications company’s website with the aim of gauging how well their online presence measured up to their competitors’ websites and how well their website reflected usability standards. For the competitor website evaluation, we focused on three main elements: website audience and engagement, marketing mix (channel and social media), and website speed performance. To measure their website’s usability, we conducted a heuristic evaluation to discover how their users interacted with the website, what their users’ needs and expectations were, and where their users might have trouble navigating and using the website.

The Result

The outcome of the heuristic evaluation was a list of usability problems and recommendations for the interface with references to usability principles.

 

Admin Dashboard

Project Overview

IQ Business was asked to assist a major South African financial institution's banking team with the design of their administrative dashboard and client onboarding platform. Our approach was to first evaluate the first iteration of the developed product and then recommend amendments to the User Interface which contributed to the improved usability of the application. We deployed a Senior UX Designer to construct and lead the usability evaluations and suggest amendments to the first iterations of the already developed product. A UI Designer worked on the look and feel design and style guide to support the development effort for the project.

Insurance System

Project Overview

The insurance company sells insurance products to the low-to-middle income market with products ranging from funeral, legal, medical and credit life insurance. Their sister company is a short-term microloan provider, and a significant portion of their revenue stream comes from the ‘credit life’ insurance which requires customers to purchase when they take out a microloan. The current system was web-based with manual interventions required throughout which limited cross-selling opportunities presented to the customers. We were tasked with rebuilding a new generation software solution. This entailed building an administrative system to manage the operational aspects of the business, as well as a customer-facing website to sell their insurance products to the public.

Halo Pay Mobile Application

Project Overview

One of South Africa's major retail bank's Halo Pay Mobile Application makes the issuing of payslips and salary payments intuitive and easy for SME business owners. Even if employees don’t have a bank account, they can simply collect their salary from an ATM. The app also has a chat service which lets employers chat directly with their employees, while leaving all their business matters securely in their hands. 

 

The Challenge

Our team was tasked with building a new application feature that would give employers and employees from other banks the ability to open an account on the mobile application too. Before going into design, we tested the existing platform’s usability and functionality through guerilla usability tests with participants.

iBranch Mobile Application

Project Overview

The Branch & ATM Infrastructure team of one of South Africa’s biggest banks had an inherent need for all branch information to be reliable and easily accessible from any location as the team conducts branch visits year round. Currently, the branch information required by team members is stored in multiple excel spreadsheet duplicates. We were called in to design and develop a platform where the team could access trusted and validated branch information from any location. The outcome of the project was a mobile and desktop application that caters for search and branch information. In this way, all team members now have access to reliable and up to date branch data.
