CASE STUDIES - RESEARCH

Financial services industry – Large African Retail Bank

IQbusiness conducted research for one of South Africa’s biggest banks. Our main focus was to assist the concerned financial institutions to understand the market and the financial needs of the public entities.

Key business challenges:

Understanding the market and the financial needs of the public entities.

Approach:

We conducted a series of one-on-one interviews, focus groups, industry research and trend analyses in order to obtain useful industry information to feed into a targeted marketing campaign.

How we helped their business grow:

  • A report on the external analysis of the public services sector and all back up materials
  • Sector reports (education, government and health) that consolidated the findings from the secondary, primary and internal analytic research
  • Final report and presentation on the findings from the internal report and external IQbusiness analysis as well as recommendations going forward
FP&M SETA – Tracking and Tracing Study

Challenge:

In order to build a sustainable skills development strategy, FP&M SETA needed adequate information and insight regarding the profile of learners, the effectiveness of offered programs and future career opportunities for learners.

Granted that IQbusiness has a dedicated and reliable research team with both Primary and Secondary Research capabilities, they were in the best position to conduct a relevant study for FP&M SETA.

How we helped their business grow:

The first phase of the study included data clean-up and analysis of existing data from FP&M SETA. In addition, IQbusiness conducted primary and secondary research with the aim of exceeding the client’s expectations.

In the second phase, IQbusiness conducted primary research by programming and facilitating online surveys, focus groups and physical questionnaires which were completed by employees of learners, training providers and the learners themselves.

Results:

The research was concluded with survey reports for apprentices and employers, industry profiles outlining key trends in the FP&M subsectors, a main report combing all analysis and key findings, PowerPoint presentations of key findings and a full Social Return on Investment (SROI), to thoroughly understand the impact of FP&M SETA operations.

As a result, the client was satisfied with all the research done and the wealth of information that added value in all areas of the development process of a strategy focusing on impact, as indicated by the client initially.

Save the Children International – Monitoring and Evaluation

Challenge:

‘Save the Children International’, an international charity organisation, wanted to understand the information needs of children and young adults, in African countries, with respect to sexuality and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) education. Given IQbusiness’s Primary and Secondary Research capabilities, they became the obvious choice to head-up the research required by the charity organisation.

How we helped their business grow:

IQbusiness conducted a research study in eight African countries. The procedure involved substantial qualitative research. IQbusiness facilitated, observed and conducted focus groups, in-depth interviews with children, youth, parents, educators and community leaders in eight countries across West, Eastern and Southern Africa. Language was not a barrier as the research activities were conducted in English, French and Amharic, with translated interview guides and materials.

Results:

As expected, IQbusiness managed to meet and exceed the client’s expectations with the delivery of a full research report, a brochure of key information from the research, as well as a professional short video summarising research highlights.

The client was impressed with the level of expertise demonstrated in the fashion in which IQbusiness conducted multi-country research with children and youth, managing to work towards extremely tight deadlines and producing exceptional qualitative research. As a result, ‘Save Children International’ was presented with valuable information that would enrich the quality and relevance of some of their offerings for children and youth in similar environments.
